Day 38 - Montezuma Well

Our skies are roily today - but all the drama does yield a fleeting rainbow over our red rock view. Too cold and windy for the coffee porch today though!

The dark clouds persist over Montezuma's Well.

The Team walks up the little hill to Montezuma Well. The clouds think about raining on us.

Another little touch of rainbow as the sun dances across the far hills.

The shelters built by those who lived here 1000 years ago.

Ducks muck the muck in the well. The well has an unknown source, likely in another galaxy. The ducks may be onto something.

The rich environment of the well is surrounded by desert.

There are of course, Guardian Trees. It is unknown how they are able to grow straight out of rock.

A vibrant spray of yellow along the edge of the well.

The Team tackles the stairs into the well.

The well provides a great habitat for growing things - and a comfy home for some lucky ducks.

The halfway wheezing station. It's worth the wheeze.

Russ' turn to tackle the winding stairs as he emerges from the well.

The cliff dwellings just below the rim. There are other dwellings closer to the water.

This tree has dropped all it's leaves - but still stands out in the crowd with it's silvery structure.

The long view from the opposite rim.

A side path down to Wet Beaver Creek reveals an amazing irrigation canal alongside the main creek. Also evolved by those who lived here 1000 years back - an incredible accomplishment..

Leaves blow enthusiatically in the wind.
